Sailing Holidays, UK / 2003 – 2019
In-house Senior Designer
Privately owned tourist sailing business that runs its own fleet of 180 yachts that sail on flotillas throughout the Greek Islands. Head office based in London. During my time at Sailing Holidays, I worked on multiple design projects across print, merchandising and exhibition. Being the sole designer, I completed all projects from beginning to final print production, including the creation of visual designs for printing such as brochures, stationary, point of sale, and a range of other marketing materials.
Achievements
- Ability to organise work from design through to print production.
- Running the design studio unaided.
- Creating a range of merchandising for our customers – including bags, towels, clothing, yachting items and signage.
- Creating highly detailed, illustrative sailing maps and yacht layouts for print and online.
- Launched a new website, where I transferred our brand to an online business.
- Creating new material to align with changes in market trends, refreshing ideas for upcoming holiday seasons, incorporating relevant design visuals as well as social media upkeep.
- Learnt to work closely with the sales team, directors and owners to identify marketing trends that attracted more customers and generated more revenue and adapting to see growth and engagement of new customers.
- Applying my design skills to a range of new and different medias.
Jones Partners, NZ / 2000 – 2002
Senior Designer / Intermediate Designer
Marketing and Communications business, Jones Partners offered me the opportunity to provide creative solutions for clients across a range of industries – from multinational corporations to emerging businesses. Working as part of a team with an Art Director, Senior Designer and Client Services Manager, we were responsible for the provision of multi-disciplinary marketing and graphic solutions, from brand or company inception through to taking products to the market. Through meeting their markets and opportunities, we have designed solutions, which have been used in campaigns globally.
As a result of my work during this period, the Senior Designer began to work part-time, eventually working on an on call basis. I was promoted, responsible for running the studio, as well as overseeing and training a Junior Designer.
Achievements
- Initially appointed as an Intermediate Designer and then promoted to Senior Designer.
- Applying my design skills to a range of different medias.
- Liaising with the Client Services Manager and Art Director, as well as printing companies.
- Training and development of a Junior Designer.
- Ability to deliver extremely tight deadlines and navigate high work demand.
- Coming up with new, innovative designs that were used in global campaigns.
- Developed experience working on a range of media including packaging design, press advertising, website preparation, TV commercials and literature.
Terau Herald Print, NZ / 1999 – 2000
Junior Designer
Beginning my career with printing house Terau Herald Print, I gained an invaluable foundation in printing. This has helped me to understand all technical details of the printing process, which has enabled me in designing innovative, but trouble free solutions for our clients. I worked and contributed within a large team, developing conceptual work, as well as seeing the job through to print.
